Missing some or all your teeth can have a devastating impact on your quality of life. The loss of a tooth or numerous teeth can severely impact your self confidence, the way you look, your ability to eat and sometimes the way you speak. The jaw bone shrinks away from the tooth socket, affecting your facial profile and leading to that “sucked in” look which is so often associated with older people. Gaps in your mouth can also make you feel conscious to smile widely, and to cover your mouth when laughing. The loss of even a single tooth can have serious consequences on the rest of your mouth, causing overloading of the remaining teeth to compensate for the loss of function of the missing tooth, which can lead to broken teeth elsewhere in the mouth, tilting of the adjacent teeth into the space, and not being able to chew food as well as with your natural teeth. However, there is now a perfect solution - DENTAL IMPLANTS, a realistic, strong and permanent way of replacing one or more missing teeth. Implants are one way of replacing missing teeth. Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, several missing teeth, or to replace a full set of teeth. Other options for missing teeth are bridges or dentures. But the disadvantages associated with them are: Chewing problems and fitting of dentures that can lead to loosening, bone resorption etc.
Dental care is a continuous process which starts in the womb (in expectant mothers) and continues lifelong. Tooth decay can begin as soon as teeth emerge in an infant’s mouth and progress rapidly to cause pain and even harm the permanent teeth that are still growing under the gums. Left untreated, it can destroy the teeth of an infant or young child and can affect a child’s general health.

Children with healthy teeth chew food easily, gain more nutrients from food they eat, learn to speak clearly, and smile with confidence. Parents are responsible for ensuring their children practice good dental hygiene. Parents must introduce proper oral care early in a child’s life-as early as infancy

A good oral hygiene routine for children includes:

Thoroughly cleaning your infant’s gums after each feeding with a water-soaked infant cloth. This stimulates the gum tissue and removes food. Teaching your child at age 3 about proper brushing techniques with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste and helping them with brushing and flossing until 7 or 8 years old. Regular visits with their dentist to check for cavities in the primary teeth and for possible developmental problems. Do not mention words like “pain” or “hurt,” since this may instill the possibility of pain in the child’s thought process. Permanent adult molars appear at the age of six that should not be mistaken for baby teeth they are meant to last lifetime. Asking the dentist about sealant applications to protect your child’s teeth-chewing surfaces and about early childhood caries, which occurs when teeth are frequently exposed to sugared liquids. Teaching them proper eating habits that would prevent dental diseases. In pediatric practice (children's dentistry) emphasis is laid on early detection and thereafter the treatment of problems affecting children. Also proper treatment plan and preventive regimen for the child is must. Prevention in case of children will help to preserve your child's teeth for life. Some of preventive treatments for children are Brushing and flossing, Fissures and sealants, Fluoride applications, Fillings Preventive orthodontic care

Dentists of today are finding that more and more people who consult them are no longer really patients. They are individuals who desire perfectly aligned, sparkling white teeth, and who may even ask for tooth jewellery. These cosmetic procedures have to be accomplished by professionals with professional products. The dental jewellery Skyce does not need to be pre-treated and is bonded onto the tooth in the same way as an orthodontic bracket. This ensures that the health of teeth is maintained.

Dental sealants for your child are an important part of the preventive program. The biting surfaces of permanent teeth often have deep, narrow pits and grooves which make these teeth susceptible to decay. Sealants can be applied to prevent decay in these pits and grooves. Sealants are effective for many years.
Facial injuries resulting in loosened, broken or knocked out teeth should receive prompt dental care. A significant time delay between injury and treatment may lead to a less favorable treatment outcome. A knocked out permanent tooth should be gently rinsed with water to remove any dirt and placed back in the socket. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, place it in a glass of milk or contact lens solution, and take the tooth with your child to the dentist as soon as possible.
Dental injuries or early loss of primary teeth before they would normally fall out may contribute to tooth crowding. Habits such as thumb sucking may add to the problem. Depending upon the type and severity of your child's bite problem, your child may benefit from early orthodontic treatment.
If you have a tooth whose internal structures are damaged, you may benefit from root canal therapy. Also called endodontics, root canal therapy can restore your tooth to its state of health by treating the damaged part of your tooth. You may experience symptoms ranging from occasional sensitivity to hot and cold foods, to constant throbbing or a dull ache, to pain on chewing. The extent of damage can be assessed by a comprehensive dental examination. Your dentist takes a dental history, examines your teeth and gums, and x-rays your teeth to examine the underlying roots and bone. After your history is taken, your dentist will examine your teeth - looking for cavities, assessing the condition of any fillings you already have, check to see if your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold, check for loose teeth, tap on your teeth to check for pain, and evaluate the condition of your gums. X-rays allow your dentist to see the inside of your teeth and the surrounding bone. With an x-ray, your dentist can detect any unhealthy changes in your teeth or bone, irrespective of whether they are causing any symptoms or not.
One of the most rapidly evolving areas of dentistry which is offered at our Dental Clinic, orthodontics involves the use of corrective appliances, including braces and retainers, to straighten crooked teeth and/or repair an irregular bite. Since the introduction of new clear and "invisible" braces, orthodontic treatment has gone from something reserved for children and teenagers to an option for adults with cosmetic and functional dental issues. Orthodontists align teeth with braces by applying constant pressure in a desired direction. The pressure is adjusted at prescribed intervals over the course of the orthodontic treatment, which can last from one to three years or longer depending on the severity of the patient's case. There are several types of orthodontic braces available to consumers, including the traditional metal braces and new clear brace.

Overview

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, your dentist will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other dental treatment. But when there's too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth may need to be extracted — or removed — from its socket in the bone.

Tooth Removal Procedures

There are two types of extractions:
1 ) A simple extraction
– this procedure is on a tooth that can be seen in the mouth. For a simple extraction, the dentist loosens the tooth with an instrument called an elevator. Then the dentist uses forceps to remove the tooth.
2) A surgical extraction
– this is a more complex procedure, which is used if a tooth may have broken off at the gum line or has not erupted in the mouth. The surgeon will make a small incision into your gum to surgically remove the broken tooth or impacted wisdom tooth.
